Military vehicle tracking: geolocation

Bellingcat's Ukraine conflict vehicle tracking project is collecting information about military vehicle sightings in and around Ukraine and the border region with Russia. This story in Checkdesk is used for geolocation work, so if there's geolocation information that's currently missing from any submission or existing entry in the data set, those can be submitted under this story.

New Yandex Maps version is strange, here's a non-panorama link in case you have the same issue when exiting to map from the panorama as I did: https://maps.yandex.com/?sll=37.964160%2C48.046444&ll=37.958042%2C48.091...

Can someone verify this location?

Where in Donetsk was this filmed?

vp.kivimaki_17

catfitz, thanks for the link. We had this also filed as Nov 1st, but I've added the link to your post for this entry. Will show up for [1115] after next update of the Silk site.

This is an old video which in fact was uploaded on November 1, 2014. We covered it and geolocated it here, and added journalists' eyewitness reports: http://www.interpretermag.com/ukraine-liveblog-day-257-heavy-fighting-in...

Train yard for geolocation

dxsp4PjkV521IvCmW5ys

Locomotive is a RZD VL10, quite common all over the former soviet union, not really helpful.

The type of overhead line suspension indicates, that three main line rails are going through (those have poles from the suspension frame downwards) and three more rails with slow-speed overhead lines.

At 01:41 of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz-iiXbglZM we can see another vehicle going through in opposite direction. I can not really spot if this might be a single bulk freight wagon (that would indicate a hump yard nearby) or a shunter. The fresh paint makes a shunter more likely. Anyway, this is near a marshalling yard, it may be next to the pullout rails area.

At the same time, we see three cars, the site must have road connection. Buildings can be seen behind the rails (best at 00:56 to 01:10 of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz-iiXbglZM).

The presence of two boys and the fence/wall (00:01 on the right, 1:11 on the left of second video) may suggest a living area nearby.

I spent some time looking at Sovkhoz north of Mitschurinsk (Tambov oblast), because this yard is next to a living area, but did not find those particular buildings.

Some of the comments says it is filmed in Syzran', but I haven't found anything similar there

Trying to find original upload of video. Here is another that seems (but I could be imagining it) a bit clearer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz-iiXbglZM
